About Wendy Esko

Wendy Esko was born in the Finger Lakes region of New York on November 26, 1949. She began macrobiotics in 1971, and moved to Boston in 1973 to study with Michio and Aveline Kushi. During the Seventies she worked with the Kushis in establishing the East West Foundation, and helped arrange macrobiotic educational programs including the annual summer study program at Amherst College in Massachusetts. In 1976, she began giving cooking classes in Brookline, Mass.

In 1978, Wendy traveled to Japan, where she spent almost a year studying Japanese traditional foods. After returning to Boston, she directed the Kushi Institute School of Cooking in Brookline, and began teaching actively at the Kushi Institute and throughout New England. Along with her husband, Edward, she managed several macrobiotic student houses in the Boston area and began training teachers on an individual basis.

In 1985, she moved with her family to Becket Village, Mass., near the Kushi Institute of the Berkshires, and began teaching regularly through the Institute's Leadership Training Program, the Macrobiotic Residential Seminar, and the New Medicine Seminars given by Michio Kushi.

Since 1978, she has taught macrobiotic cooking in San Francisco, Kyoto, Japan, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Atlanta, Kansas City, Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, North and South Carolina, Florida, the Virginia Islands, and Italy.

She is the author of Introducing Macrobiotic Cooking (1978) and co-author with her husband Edward of Macrobiotic Cooking for Everyone (1980), both published by Japan Publications. She has also co-authored the following books, many of which can be found in The Natural Connection's Bookstore:
