About Aveline Kushi

Aveline Kushi was one of the foremost macrobiotic chefs in the world. Along with her husband, Michio Kushi, she introduced macrobiotics to America in the early 1950s, and for over four decades she guided thousands of individuals and families to greater health and happiness. She was founder and president of Erewhon, which spearheaded the organic and natural foods movement of the 1960s.

She and her husband founded the Kushi Institute, which has become the world center for macrobiotic education, and the One Peaceful World Society, the international macrobiotic information network and friendship society. Over the years, Aveline personally trained hundreds of macrobiotic cooking teachers, and many of the leading macrobiotic and natural foods chefs studied with her.

She wrote the bestselling Aveline Kushi's Complete Guide to Macrobiotic Cooking and other books, and her cookbooks have been translated into many languages. The mother of five children and grandmother of ten, she took an active role in macrobiotic education and development throughout her life.
