Dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity through land and water protection of natural areas. Identifies ecologically significant lands and protects them through gift, purchase, or cooperative management agreements with government or private agencies, voluntary arrangements with private landowners, and cost-saving methods of protection. Provides long-term stewardship for 1600 conservancy-owned preserves and makes most conservancy lands available for nondestructive use on request by educational and scientific organizations.
