Defenders of Wildlife is a national, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the preservation of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities. It promotes the preservation and protection of wildlife and wildlife habitat through education, litigation, research, and advocacy. Programs focus on habitat preservation for biological diversity, prevention of wildlife mortality from entanglement in plastic refuse, endangered species recovery, international wildlife trade, and wildlife on public lands such as wildlife refuges and marine sanctuaries. Maintains speakers' bureau; provides wildlife education and information; compiles statistics.
